Former Cameroon and Bordeaux midfielder Landry Nguemo tragically passed away in a car accident in Cameroon on Thursday at the age of 38. The Cameroon Football Federation confirmed his death, expressing condolences to his family and the football community. Nguemo, who played as a defensive midfielder, rose to prominence in French football with Nancy, winning the League Cup in 2006 and later playing for Celtic and Bordeaux.
Nguemo's career included stints with Saint-Etienne and Turkish clubs Akhisar Belediyespor and Kayserispor, before concluding with Norwegian side Kongsvinger in 2019. He earned 41 caps for Cameroon between 2006 and 2014, participating in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. After retiring, Nguemo dedicated himself to coaching youth at Nancy and investing in Cameroon's development, focusing on improving education for young footballers and property development.
Celtic paid tribute to Nguemo, mourning his untimely death and offering their thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. The club expressed their shock and sadness at the loss of their former player, remembering his contributions both on and off the field.
