Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is "awake" and "alert" following a concerning incident during his side's Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday, where he collapsed on the pitch.
The match was suspended in the 16th minute and later abandoned as players and staff reacted quickly to the situation, with medical personnel rushing to his aid.
Bove, 22, was later admitted to intensive care, where he underwent treatment and was kept under observation.
Fiorentina reported that after a stable night, Bove was "awakened and extubated" and is now able to communicate with his family, teammates, and coaching staff.
The club expressed gratitude towards the doctors at Careggi University Hospital for their care and professionalism, noting that further tests will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of the collapse.
Following the positive update, Bove spoke with his teammates and coach, who visited him as soon as they received the good news.
Despite the shock of the incident, the club confirmed that Wednesday's Coppa Italia match against Empoli would proceed as planned, with the team determined to return to the pitch in honor of their teammate's recovery.
Bove, who joined Fiorentina on loan from Roma in August, had made an impressive start at the club, scoring his first goal for them in October against his parent team. The young midfielder has represented Italy up to the under-21 level, though he has not yet earned a senior cap.
Fiorentina, in their statement, assured fans that Bove’s recovery is the top priority and thanked everyone involved in his treatment.
