Everton Reports £53 Million Loss but Avoids Financial Penalties

Posted : 01 April 2025

Everton reported a loss of £53 million ($68.44 million) for the 2023-24 season, marking the club’s seventh consecutive year in the red. While the club's financial situation showed some improvement from the previous year's £89.1 million deficit, their total losses over the last seven seasons have now reached £570 million.

However, despite these ongoing deficits, Everton will not face any breaches of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

The club had faced financial penalties in the past, including an eight-point deduction for breaching the Profit & Sustainability Regulations (PSR) during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

This January, the Premier League confirmed that Everton, along with all other clubs, met the financial requirements for the 2023-24 season, and no further charges would be imposed.

While the club's losses over a three-year period stand at £187 million, certain exemptions for investment in infrastructure, youth development, and women’s football allowed Everton to remain compliant with the league's regulations.

Everton's financial outlook has been positively impacted by a recent £350 million funding deal to refinance loans for their new stadium, set to open in the 2025-26 season.

Additionally, the club's finances were significantly improved following the December takeover by the Texas-based Friedkin Group, which involved converting former shareholder Farhad Moshiri's loans into equity.

On the pitch, Everton has experienced an upturn under manager David Moyes, who replaced Sean Dyche in January, and the team is currently unbeaten in nine Premier League matches, sitting 15th in the table, well clear of the relegation zone.
