Real Madrid's coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed sympathy for Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian winger was sent off during the team's 2-1 victory over Valencia. Vinicius was dismissed for pushing goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in a tense moment during the match, adding to the player's difficult experience at Mestalla.
Valencia fans had previously mocked Vinicius, a target of racial abuse during a 2022 encounter, which made the situation even more challenging for the 24-year-old.
Ancelotti acknowledged the mental and emotional toll on Vinicius, describing it as "difficult" to be in his position, given the ongoing abuse and insults he endures. Despite the red card, which the coach believed should have been a yellow, Ancelotti emphasized that Vinicius felt remorse and apologized for his actions.
The Real Madrid manager also noted that Vinicius has worked hard to improve his behavior on the field, despite occasional clashes with defenders and fans.
Looking ahead, Vinicius faces potential disciplinary action, with a decision on a possible ban expected next week. He remains available for Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey match against Deportivo Minera on Monday.
Ancelotti reiterated his belief that the red card was harsh and remains hopeful that the player will not be suspended, as Madrid prepares for their Spanish Super Cup semifinal clash against Mallorca in Saudi Arabia later this week.
