Zimbabwe-Nigeria World Cup qualifier to be played in Kigali

Posted : 20 October 2023
The Warriors of Zimbabwe will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria at Kigali Pele Stadium on Monday, November 20.

The match was originally scheduled to be played at Rufaru Sports Stadium or Barbourfields Stadium, the two national stadiums of Zimbabwe. However, both stadiums failed to meet FIFA standards and were deemed unfit to host the match.

FIFA ordered the game to be played on a neutral ground, and the Zimbabwean Football Federation chose Kigali Pele Stadium, which has been approved by the world football governing body.

Zimbabwe will open their World Cup qualifying campaign with an away game against Rwanda at Kigali Pele Stadium on November 13. They will then stay behind to welcome Nigeria at the same venue seven days later.

Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Nigeria, South Africa, and Benin are in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
