Zamalek, An Egyptian Champion, Fires Head Coach Jesualdo Ferreira Once More

After being ousted from the African Champions’ League group stage for the third consecutive year, Zamalek confirmed on Wednesday that the 76-year-old contract had been cancelled by mutual consent.
The former Porto, Benfica, and Sporting coach Ferreira was fired by Zamalek on January 24 due to a bad run of results in the Egyptian League, but within a week he returned due to the club's failure to pay the penalty provision in his contract.
Ferreira's third stint with Zamalek ended with the club fifth in the rankings, 11 points behind the league leaders Al-Ahly despite having played two more games after two wins in nine games.
At Zamalek, fan favorite Ferreira won the league championship and Egyptian Cup twice.
Despite winning the title, his initial tenure was short-lived in 2015 due to a disagreement with club president Mortada Mansour, who is notorious for often replacing head coaches but reinstated him last year.
As a result of insulting Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the rival club Al-Ahly, Mansour is currently serving a one-month prison sentence for slander.
