Zakaria Aboukhlal, a striker for Toulouse, has been ordered to practise by himself while an inquiry into an alleged confrontation with a local official is ongoing.
Toulouse characterized the charges as "serious." According to the story, Aboukhlal and Laurence Arribage, Toulouse's deputy mayor in charge of sports, got into a fight during a ceremony honouring the team's victory in the French Cup in April.
Arribage downplayed the altercation by claiming that she had instructed the players to be silent.
"The players do not like being told to keep quiet like this," Arribage said.
In a statement Toulouse said: "In response to the serious allegations published by RMC Sport against Toulouse Football Club player Zakaria Aboukhlal, the club has announced that the player will train away from the professional squad until further notice, pending the results of an internal investigation."
A 23-year-old Toulouse footballer named Aboukhlal was excluded from the team to play Nantes in Ligue 1 last weekend because he declined to participate in a league-wide display of solidarity against homophobia.
