Yuletide: Okwelle Female Football League 3rd Edition set for Dec 21st kick off

The stage is set, the teams are ready, and the passion for the beautiful game is about to reach fever pitch as the 3rd edition of the Okwelle Female Football League, a brainchild of Chibuzo Umunnakwe, kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 21.


The much-anticipated tournament will take place at the Okwelle Football Field in Onuimo Local Government Area, Imo State.

This year, four grassroots powerhouses will lock horns in what promises to be a thrilling showdown for football supremacy. Fans can look forward to the dazzling skills of:
- Eze-Money Falcons
- Silas Angels
- Umunnakwe Babes
- Ugoeze Chukwukere Queens


Each team brings its unique flair, determination, and hunger to claim glory, ensuring there will be no dull moments on the pitch.


The tournament, fully sponsored by Onuimo and Chibuzo Umunnakwe, the General Manager of the Imo State Advertising Agency (IMSAA), in partnership with Okwelle Progressive Youths, is more than just a football competition.


It’s a philanthropic initiative aimed at driving the development of grassroots sports, empowering young female athletes, and promoting the girl child through football.


Since its inception, the tournament has proven to be a launching pad for young talents, with several players now showcasing their skills in the NWFL Premier League and Championship sides.


As the whistle blows at 3 p.m. for the kick-off ceremony, the football field in Okwelle will transform into a carnival of excitement, showcasing not just football excellence but also community spirit.


Over the years, the league has become a key part of the yuletide funfair in Onuimo, delivering a perfect blend of entertainment, competition, and camaraderie.


Football fans, families, and community members are encouraged to come out in numbers, don their team colors, and cheer for their favorite players.
