The Imo chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria Under-16 Football Championship has received a massive boost as Sports Commission Chairman Ambassador Prince Eliazar Ogbonna and Imo Strikers Queen boss Prince Chidi have given their support to the grassroots development competition.
Both individuals have magnanimously made mouth-watering donations to ensure the success of the tournament.
The Imo Sports Commission boss, who also doubles as the South East YSFON patron, made cash donations to support the cause, while the Imo Strikers Queen boss, who also serves as the Mbaitoli Local Government YSFON chairman, donated 10 balls which will be given to participating teams after registration, as well as a cash donation for the best player award.
The YSFON Imo State U-16 tournament is set to kick off on July 16 at the Old Township Stadium on Tetlow Road, Owerri.
This tournament will be an avenue for football talent discovery as scouts will be on the ground to identify talents.
Players from the tournament will be selected to represent the state at the zonal level, which is scheduled to be held in Awka, Anambra State. Zonal winners will subsequently represent the zone at the national level.
It is also important to note that YSFON is an independent body that partners with the government for grassroots sports development and is not under any body, association, “umbrella,” or organization, nor is it compelled to affiliate with FIFA or State FA.
The YSFON hierarchy of authority begins at the local government level, then progresses to the state level, followed by the zonal level, after which we have the national body, and finally, the international level.
