Young Boys Part Ways with Coach Patrick Rahmen Following Poor Start to the Season

Posted : 09 October 2024

Swiss club Young Boys announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with head coach Patrick Rahmen after a dismal start to the season that has left them languishing at the bottom of both the domestic league and the Champions League. The 55-year-old had joined the team in May, signing a two-year contract, and initially led them to a victory against Turkish side Galatasaray in a Champions League playoff match in August. However, subsequent performances have fallen short of expectations.

In the wake of Rahmen's departure, Young Boys have appointed Joel Magnin, their under-21 coach, as the interim manager. Magnin has prior experience with the club, having successfully guided Young Boys to the Swiss Super League title last season after stepping in as interim coach following Raphael Wicky's exit. His familiarity with the team's dynamics and the club’s objectives could prove beneficial as they seek to turn their fortunes around.

Currently, Young Boys find themselves at the bottom of the 12-team Swiss Super League, having secured only one victory in their nine matches this season. Their struggles have also extended to the Champions League, where they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Barcelona last week, following a 3-0 loss at home to Aston Villa in their opening match. Looking ahead, the team will face Luzern at home on October 19 in the domestic league before hosting Italian side Inter Milan in the Champions League four days later.
