Arthur Okonkwo has continued his impressive form from last season, extending his clean sheet streak to three games following Wrexham's 2-0 away victory against Peterborough United at Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.
This marks only the second time in his professional career that Okonkwo has achieved three consecutive shutouts. His first instance of this was with Crewe Alexandra during the 2022-2023 season, where he recorded clean sheets in successive games against Leyton Orient, Colchester United, and Swindon Town.
Since joining Wrexham, Okonkwo has been instrumental in maintaining a strong defensive record. The team has not conceded an away league goal since John Akinde scored against them at JobServe Community Stadium on April 6.
Wrexham secured Okonkwo’s permanent signing in June 2024, recognizing his pivotal role in their promotion to the English Football League's third tier during the 2023-2024 season. His consistent performance earned him accolades as the best goalkeeper in League Two.
In April 2024, the English Football League named him the best goalkeeper in League Two for the 2023-2024 campaign, thanks to his impressive record of thirteen clean sheets in 34 league appearances.
Aside from a 4-2 defeat to Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup’s first round, Okonkwo has been a reliable presence in every match for Wrexham this season.
With a history of representing England at U15, U16, U17, and U18 levels, Okonkwo is now being closely watched by the Nigeria Football Federation for a potential call-up to the Super Eagles.
