Wounded Abia Warriors set for Oriental derby

Posted : 13 March 2024

After going unbeaten for three games in the ongoing 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season, the Pride of Abia have arrived in Awka, Anambra State for the Matchday 25 league game against Oriental Brothers, Heartland Football Club of Owerri.

After a brief rest, the players had a chance to experience the Awka City Stadium, the venue of the Oriental derby league game.

The team is optimistic about winning the Oriental derby. According to the club captain, Augustine Njoku, the players aim to secure all three points to make up for the two points dropped at home against Lobi Stars FC in the previous fixture.

A win or draw will extend Abia Warriors' unbeaten run to four matches.

The match kicks off at 4:00pm.

Goalkeeper Ali Ishaku is the only injury concern at the Warriors' camp at the moment.

The Head Coach of Lobi Stars Football Club, Eugene Agagbe, has commended the renovation work carried out on the turf of Umuahia Township Stadium. He believes the turf is one of the best in the country.

Abia Warriors center-back Collins Nwoburuoke, who celebrates his birthday today, says his wish is for the team to secure at least a point in tomorrow's game against Heartland FC.
