FIFA announced on Thursday that this year's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is set to break records as the most attended standalone women's sporting event ever, with over one million tickets already sold.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed that the ninth edition of the Women's World Cup, commencing on July 20, has already surpassed the ticket sales of the previous tournament in France in 2019, reaching a total of 1,032,884 tickets sold.
Infantino expressed his gratitude to the fans for their support, stating, "The future is women, thanks to the fans for supporting what will be the greatest FIFA Women's World Cup ever! The momentum is growing in the host countries and around the world, and I eagerly anticipate seeing you there to witness the brilliance of women's football on the global stage."
Due to the high demand for tickets, FIFA has already announced a change in venue for Australia's opening match against Ireland. The game will now take place at the 83,500-capacity Stadium Australia, the largest stadium of the tournament.
This adjustment will allow up to 100,000 fans to attend the opening games, including the match between co-hosts New Zealand and Norway, which will be held hours earlier in Auckland.
