The Netherlands secured a dominant 7-0 victory over Vietnam, topping Group E of the Women's World Cup ahead of the United States.
Esmee Brugts shined with two remarkable curling efforts, one before and one after the break, showcasing her skills. Jill Roord also scored twice, and Lieke Martens, Katja Snoeijs, and Danielle van de Donk were the other Dutch scorers in this emphatic win.
As the runners-up of Group E, the Netherlands will face the runners-up from Group G in the first round of 16 on Sunday.
Heading into their final group game, the Netherlands were in second place, just behind the United States on goal difference. Vietnam, on the other hand, had already been eliminated following a defeat to fellow debutants Portugal in their previous match.
Netherlands coach Andries Jonker decided to stick with an unchanged starting lineup from the team that had previously shown their potential by holding the reigning world champions, the USA, to a 1-1 draw.
Despite missing their all-time top goalscorer Vivianne Miedema due to an ACL injury, the Dutch team had no trouble finding the back of the net against Vietnam, with five different players contributing to the goals.
Vietnam started the game brightly in their quest for their first-ever World Cup goal, but the Dutch quickly took control. Lieke Martens skillfully chested down Dominique Janssen's pass over the Vietnam defense and lobbed the keeper to open the scoring after just eight minutes.
The goal opened the floodgates, with Katja Snoeijs adding a quick second, followed by Esmee Brugts' stunning curling shot from outside the box, giving the Netherlands a 3-0 lead after 18 minutes.
Manchester City's new signing, Jill Roord, tapped in the fourth goal, prompting Vietnam's coach Mai Duc Chung to make a double substitution after only 28 minutes.
Although Vietnam managed to hold off conceding for 22 minutes, the Netherlands struck again just before half-time, with Danielle van de Donk capitalizing on a rebound.
Vietnam changed their goalkeeper at half-time, but Esmee Brugts scored her second spectacular goal, mirroring her first, leaving the opposition helpless. The biggest winning margin of the tournament so far was completed when Stefanie van der Gragt's header set up Jill Roord for an easy finish.
