Wolverhampton Wanderers have abandoned their attempt to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale due to the deal's prohibitive cost. The proposed move for the 26-year-old, who has been seeking more first-team opportunities after losing his spot to David Raya, is no longer feasible for the West Midlands club. Despite discussions over the weekend and a loan offer with an option to buy for approximately £20 million, the transfer is now considered off.
Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021 for £24 million, still has two years remaining on his contract with the Gunners. Wolves' financial constraints have influenced their decision, even though they have raised nearly £100 million through the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman this summer.
Manager Gary O'Neil has emphasized the importance of being satisfied with their transfer dealings before the window closes, following their recent 6-2 defeat to Chelsea. He acknowledged the challenge of strengthening the squad while maintaining competitive strength after selling key players.
Additionally, Wolves' offer for Burnley winger Luca Koleosho was rejected last week, and that deal is also expected to falter. O'Neil is focused on maximizing the potential of his current squad amid the club's ongoing financial and transfer challenges.
