Wolverhampton 1-4 Brighton & Hove Albion: Brighton secure Premier League win with impressive attacking performance
Posted : 19 August 2023
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed his gratitude for managing the club after his team showcased another impressive attacking performance to defeat Wolves 4-1, securing their second consecutive win at the start of the Premier League season.
Kaoru Mitoma's stunning solo goal put Brighton in the lead, with the Japan international displaying skill and composure to sidestep challenges and beat Wolves' goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Despite Wolves having opportunities to equalize, Brighton capitalized on their profligacy by scoring three times in nine minutes during the second half. Pervis Estupinan doubled their lead just 41 seconds after the restart, while Solly March's two close-range finishes extended the lead to 4-0.
Hwang Hee-chan pulled one back for Wolves with a well-placed header, but Matheus Nunes' late red card added to the host's woes.
De Zerbi praised the team's performance, singling out Mitoma, March, and Julio Enciso for their contributions. He emphasized the squad's potential and his role in pushing them to improve further.
Brighton's attacking prowess was evident in their impressive display, with Mitoma's threat and Enciso's playmaking leading to goals. March's determination and composure also stood out.
Despite potential defensive improvements, Brighton's attack seems capable of surpassing their sixth-place finish from the previous season.
Wolves, on the other hand, felt frustrated after missing opportunities to equalize. Manager Gary O'Neil acknowledged their lack of clinical finishing and credited Brighton's clinical performance.
Wolves had previously left Manchester United empty-handed, and despite creating opportunities against Brighton, they were unable to salvage a victory.
Fabio Silva's early effort was disallowed for offside, while Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto missed chances. Rayan Ait-Nouri also missed a promising opportunity.
The game turned in Brighton's favor early in the second half as they capitalized on their chances, leaving Wolves struggling to catch up.
Nunes' late red card highlighted Wolves' frustrating day, with the team losing both of their opening games. O'Neil recognized the need to improve in terms of finishing and commitment.
Wolves' tough start to the season raised concerns about their performance unless they enhance their performance in both attacking and defensive aspects.
