2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 9: Will Ikorodu City FC's revival continue, as test of character looms against Enyimba International FC

Posted : 26 October 2024

The city of Aba will come alive once again for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 9 as nine-time league champions, Enyimba International FC of Aba, host the resurgent league debutants, Ikorodu City.

For Ikorodu City FC, this game will be a test of character. After enduring a five-match winless streak, they surprised fans with two wins and a draw in their last three fixtures.

The Oga Boys will face one of their biggest challenges of the season on Sunday as they travel to Aba to take on league giants Enyimba FC.

Heading into this clash on a three-game unbeaten run, the Oga Boys have netted 8 goals and conceded only 3, fueled by two solid home victories and a hard-earned away draw.

Since Match Day 6, the team has shown resilience and growth. With the recent exit of their head coach, assistant coach Nurudeen Aweroro, now interim head coach, has brought new stability and confidence to the squad.

Supported by the coaching staff, Aweroro has led the Oga Boys through a crucial period, sparking the fans' excitement with their attacking prowess and defensive resilience.

Now, the club faces its biggest test yet. Enyimba, known as the People’s Elephants, are Nigeria’s most successful football club, and playing them at home is a tough challenge.

Mixed injury updates precede the crucial clash, as goalkeeper James Faith has fully recovered and is available for selection. Toyeeb Ajeyigbe, recently reinstated after serving a suspension, brings added firepower, though Kelechi Onwe is sidelined with a minor knock, and Ayomide Cole is still recovering from an earlier injury.

Despite going winless in their last three games, Enyimba remain in 3rd place, highlighting their depth and talent. Apart from their Match Day 7 draw with Niger Tornadoes, they’ve won all their home games this season, which adds to the challenge facing Ikorodu City FC.

Ikorodu’s recent form should inspire confidence as they prepare for Match Day 9, a chance to prove their mettle. While they’ve managed to earn valuable points on the road with two draws and two losses, an away win against Enyimba would be a tremendous morale boost.

This match marks their first top-flight encounter with Enyimba.
