Wilfried Zaha signs three-year contract with Galatasaray after Crystal Palace contract expires

Posted : 25 July 2023
The club will be managed by Roy Hodgson for the upcoming season. The Eagles have signed midfielder Jefferson Lerma, goalkeeper Jack Butland, and midfielders Luka Milovojevic and James McArthur.
Wilfried Zaha has completed a move to Galatasaray after his contract with Crystal Palace expired. The 30-year-old forward has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish club, earning a signing on fee of 2.35m euros (£2m) and an annual salary of 4.35m euros (£3.75m).

Zaha has had a long-standing association with Crystal Palace, joining the club at the age of 12 and spending most of his career there. He made a total of 458 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 90 goals, and became the club's third-highest appearance-maker.

Last season, Zaha scored seven goals and even captained the team on several occasions until a hamstring injury ruled him out of the last two matches of the campaign.

In a heartfelt message to the Palace fans before his move, Zaha expressed his gratitude to the club, its chairman Steve Parish, his teammates, coaches, and the entire fanbase for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

Zaha's professional career began in 2010 when he made his senior debut for Palace at the age of 17. He quickly established himself as a key player, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2013. A brief stint at Manchester United followed, but he returned to Palace on loan and later made his move permanent in 2015.

Over the years, Zaha has been the subject of transfer speculations, with offers from Arsenal and Everton being rejected by Palace in 2019. Prior to the end of the 2022-23 season, he was reportedly offered a lucrative new contract, but his existing deal expired on June 30.

Despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, Zaha ultimately decided to join Galatasaray. His departure, along with other players like Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur, and Jack Butland, marks a transitional period for Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, the team will be managed by Roy Hodgson for the upcoming season, as he agreed to a one-year deal after replacing Patrick Vieira in March.
