Wikki Tourists appoints former players, Saleh, Garba as Chief Coach, Coordinator
Posted : 06 September 2023
Bashir Saleh, a Bauchi-born coach holding a CAF B Coaching license from the renowned National Institute for Sports (NIS) in Lagos, has been named the Chief Coach of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi.
Saleh's football journey began several years ago when he started as a registered league player with Wikki Tourists' feeder team in 1995.
Popularly known as Coach Bash, he later joined Zabgai FC and Wunti FC at different points in his career.
His playing career at Wikki Tourists FC came to an end in 2003 due to injury after four seasons, prompting him to transition into coaching.
His coaching career took off in Bauchi when he managed Wikki Tourists FC during the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons and Gombe United for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 NPFL seasons. This re-engagement by the new Wikki Tourists interim Management marks his return to the club.
Similarly, the new Team Coordinator, Hashimu Garba, was a former player of the club and had previously served as Team Manager.
He was part of the 1999 U20 Nigeria National Team for the FIFA Youth Games and played professional football in Italy from 1997 to 2008, concluding his career with Copparese FC in the Italian lower division league before returning to Nigeria.
Both Coach Bash and Hashimu Garba started their football careers at the grassroots level with non-league clubs in Bauchi and later progressed to join Zabgai and Wunti Football clubs as league players before becoming professionals with Wikki Tourists.
These appointments by the Wikki Tourists Interim Management are effective immediately.
