Why Cardiff City coach prevented Collins from Nigerian national duty

Cardiff City Coach Erol Bulut has explained the club's decision to prevent Jamilu Collins from participating in Nigeria's friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique later this month.
The decision was motivated by the concern that Collins, who recently recovered from a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for over 41 weeks, could be at a high risk of injury if he were to engage in international duty during the break.
Despite the injury, the 29-year-old has made an impressive return, featuring in nine Championship games this season and providing one assist.
Collins had previously been included in Nigeria's squad for the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe, a match Nigeria won 6-0.
However, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) later announced that Collins would be replaced by Chidozie Awaziem, sparking some controversy, particularly since Collins had just completed a full 90 minutes in Cardiff City's previous game against Watford.
Erol Bulut emphasized the need to protect Collins from potential injuries, acknowledging that both the club and the national team have a vested interest in ensuring his well-being.
Nigeria already possesses suitable cover at right-back with Awaziem, a versatile player who can also operate as a central defender.
As the Africa Cup of Nations approaches, Collins will be aiming to regain full fitness and contribute to Nigeria's campaign.
