Arsenal earned a spot against West Ham after defeating Brentford 1-0 in the previous round, but they were soundly beaten 3-1 by West Ham in the EFL Cup, leading to their elimination.
An own goal by Ben White, a goal by Mohammed Kudus, and a third goal by Jarrod Bowen secured West Ham's place in the quarter-finals. Arsenal managed to score a consolation goal in injury time, courtesy of substitute Martin Odegaard.
David Moyes made five changes to the West Ham lineup following their Premier League loss to Everton, while Arsenal also made six changes. Declan Rice, who had moved to Arsenal for £105 million in the summer, was on the bench in his first game back at West Ham.
Although Arsenal dominated possession in the first half, they fell behind to an organized West Ham side. West Ham took the lead from a corner routine with Ben White heading in Jarrod Bowen's cross.
Despite their efforts, Arsenal couldn't break through West Ham's defense. In the second half, West Ham extended their lead with goals from Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen. Arsenal managed a late consolation goal after a quick exchange between Odegaard and Viera.
The 3-1 victory by West Ham led to Arsenal's exit from the EFL Cup, leaving them to compete in the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League.
