West Ham has secured the loan signing of midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City for the remainder of the season. The deal, confirmed by a source, does not include an option for a permanent transfer, with West Ham covering Phillips' full wages and paying a loan fee.
Phillips, 28, sought a move to secure more playing time, having made only four substitute appearances in the Premier League for Manchester City this season.
Despite interest from multiple clubs, West Ham emerged as the destination for Phillips, with manager David Moyes expressing keen interest in the midfielder. Last summer, Moyes even contemplated a part-exchange deal involving Phillips for Declan Rice, who eventually joined Arsenal.
Phillips, who joined Manchester City in July 2022 from Leeds United for £43 million ($54.5m), aims to revive his career at West Ham and secure a regular spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
The midfielder had a limited role in Manchester City's treble-winning campaign last season and is determined to showcase his form as he looks to maintain his place in the national team ahead of the crucial European tournament this summer.
