West Ham United have completed the signing of German striker Niclas Fuellkrug from Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of £27.5 million. Fuellkrug, who netted 16 goals during his only season with Dortmund, played a key role in their run to last season's Champions League final. Additionally, he made an impact in Euro 2024, scoring twice despite starting from the bench as Germany advanced to the quarterfinals.
Known for his physical presence and effective finishing, Fuellkrug is a popular figure in Germany, where many fans had advocated for him to start ahead of Arsenal’s Kai Havertz in the Euros. Expressing his excitement about the move, Fuellkrug stated, "I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and for me it is the right time to move over to England and play for a big club like West Ham."
West Ham, having been quite active in the transfer market despite a generally quiet period, have also brought in wingers Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme, along with defender Max Kilman. Technical director Tim Steidten, who previously worked with Fuellkrug at Werder Bremen, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, highlighting Fuellkrug's physicality, finishing ability, and strong character.
