West Ham has confirmed that manager David Moyes will be departing at the conclusion of the current Premier League season, following reports that former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is set to replace him.
Moyes, 61, faced mounting pressure amid a string of poor results, notably Sunday’s 5-0 loss to Chelsea. Expressing gratitude for his time at the club, Moyes highlighted the progress made during his tenure, including leading West Ham to Europa Conference League success last season.
During his second spell at West Ham since December 2019, Moyes steered the team from a relegation-threatened position to securing three consecutive seasons in European competitions.
Despite this, recent struggles, with just one win in their last ten games across all competitions, have seen them sitting ninth in the Premier League, likely missing out on European football next season.
Moyes acknowledged the club's improved position upon his return and thanked the players for their support and achievements during his tenure.
While the appointment of Lopetegui as Moyes’ successor is reportedly imminent, West Ham has initiated the search for a new manager but refrained from making any official comments until a formal appointment is made.
Club chairman David Sullivan commended Moyes for his significant contributions, stating that Moyes deserves respect and well-wishes for his service to West Ham United.
The announcement of Moyes’ departure allows for a fitting send-off at the club’s final home fixture of the season against Luton Town on Saturday, marking the end of a successful but ultimately challenging chapter under Moyes’ leadership.
