West Brom confirms Maja out, won't cap-tie in 2023
Posted : 20 September 2023
West Brom announced on their official website that Nigerian striker Josh Maja will be out for around eight weeks due to an ankle ligament injury.
Maja sustained the injury in the closing stages of a 0-0 draw with Bristol City. With all substitutes already used, manager Carlos Corberán couldn't replace him.
Maja signed a three-year deal with West Brom this summer after deciding to leave French club Bordeaux.
Still settling into the team, all of Maja's five league appearances have been as a substitute.
The injury also rules him out for Nigeria's final 2023 games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
His recovery is expected to commence after a resting period, with a potential return after the November international window.
Maja made his debut for Nigeria in a 2019 friendly against Ukraine.
