The Head coach of Nigeria's national U-17 women's team, Bankole Olowookere, has stated that his side will be adequately prepared to face the opposition from West African rivals, Burkina Faso. The Flamingos are set to encounter Burkina Faso in a two-legged third-round clash of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers next month. Olowookere assured that the team will work diligently to secure qualification, emphasizing the importance of creating a well-balanced team before the World Cup.
"Every team should be considered a threat. Underestimating your opponent can lead to trouble," he remarked. "We must show respect before the game, but once the match begins, we must focus solely on winning." Olowookere stressed the significance of not underestimating Burkina Faso and acknowledged the challenges of the African qualifying process. He emphasized the need for hard work and dedication to ensure Nigeria's progression to the World Cup.
"Burkina Faso alone cannot determine Nigeria's fate in the World Cup qualification," he added. "We must approach every game with determination and the mindset of facing formidable opponents. Qualifying from Africa is a tough challenge, but we are committed to winning and advancing to the next stage."
Regarding player selection, Olowookere mentioned that 25 players have been invited to the Flamingos' camp for the upcoming fixtures. He explained that while some players have been dropped, others will be given equal opportunities to showcase their talent. Olowookere aims to build a well-rounded team capable of competing at the highest level come October.
The first leg of the third-round fixture is scheduled to take place at the Stade 4 August in Ouagadougou on Sunday, May 12th, with the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday, May 18th.
