Super Eagles head coach, Jose Vitor Peseiro, has issued a strong message of caution to Equatorial Guinea, the AFCON group rivals of Nigeria. This marks Peseiro's inaugural tournament as the Super Eagles' coach since assuming the role on May 15, 2022. The 63-year-old coach has consistently emphasized his determination for nothing less than victory in Ivory Coast.
In preparation for Africa's premier football competition, Nigeria underwent training in Abu Dhabi and engaged in two friendly matches. Their first match is scheduled for Sunday against Equatorial Guinea's Nzalang Nacional Los Elefantes.
During a recent press briefing at the training camp, the former Porto manager expressed his desire for Nigeria to kick off the tournament with a strong performance, especially considering Equatorial Guinea's notable history in AFCON.
Acknowledging the challenges of the short and demanding tournament, Peseiro acknowledged Equatorial Guinea's superior performance in the previous edition. Despite this, he stressed the team's commitment to securing a win, emphasizing the need for complete focus on every aspect, including training, meals, and rest.
Unfortunately, Jose Peseiro will have to navigate the tournament without the services of Victor Boniface, who sustained an injury. The Leverkusen forward has been replaced by Terem Moffi.
