The Washington Commanders have bolstered their defensive line by signing Nigerian player Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi through the International Player Pathway Program (IPPP). Ndubuisi, a towering 6-7 and weighing 323 pounds, brings youth and potential to the team, having played soccer and basketball before transitioning to football. He honed his skills at the Uprise Academy in Nigeria, founded by former NFL player Osi Umenyiora, and entered the NFL in April 2022.
Initially allocated to the Arizona Cardinals as an Offensive Lineman, Ndubuisi's journey in the NFL took him to the Denver Broncos, where he made the switch to the defensive line. Despite spending the 2023 season on the Broncos' practice squad, he was not offered a reserve/future contract. Following a brief stint with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL), Ndubuisi has now found a new home with the Commanders.
The Commanders' coaching staff, led by head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters, have been active in the offseason, making significant additions to the roster. Alongside Ndubuisi, notable signings include running back Austin Ekeler, linebacker Bobby Wagner, defensive lineman Clellin Ferrell, guard Tyler Allegretti, and safety Jeremy Chinn, indicating a strong push for improvement.
Quinn has also reunited with former players from his time with the Dallas Cowboys, adding center Tyler Biadasz, defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong, corner Noah Igbinoghene, and defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. These acquisitions aim to strengthen various position groups within the Commanders' lineup and enhance overall team performance.
With Ndubuisi's signing, the Commanders continue to build depth and talent across their roster, positioning themselves for a competitive season ahead.
