Was Paul Onuachu's January transfer of Southampton a mistake?

Paul Onuachu, a forward for the Super Eagles, moved from KRC Genk to Southampton during the January transfer window, however this is seen to have been a mistake on his part.
Onuachu was the league's leading scorer while playing in Belgium, tallying a total of 16 goals. In his attempt to play in the best league in the world, the Nigerian star may have chosen the incorrect side at the incorrect time.
Onuachu garnered attention when, in his first two seasons, he led Genk in league goals with 33. He remained in Genk despite rumors that he would depart Belgium.
The former FC Midtjylland forward scored 21 goals in the Jupiler Pro League despite being unable to match his previous season's goal total due to injury.
Before unexpectedly joining Premier League underdog Southampton in the January transfer window, Onuachu scored 16 goals this season.
However, as Ruben Selles' team's demise draws near, the attacker, who might have waited until the summer transfer window, may be dropping into the second division with the Saints.
The Saints are still at the bottom of the standings, four points behind Everton, after their most recent loss to Crystal Palace in front of the St. Mary's supporters.
As they prepare to face Arsenal, Newcastle, and Liverpool in their final Premier League games, Onuachu's team may have lost all hope.
Manager Ruben Selles has presided over 10 games since February, when Nathan Jones was fired after eight league games. Onuachu has hardly started three of those games.
His former team is currently in first place in the Belgian Pro League, and even if they do not win the championship, they stand a good chance of earning a spot in the European League the following year.
This raises the possibility that Onuachu made a hurried decision that might have drawn stronger bidders during the following summer window.
