The Nigeria national U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, will take on Water FC of Abuja in a friendly game.
The two-time World Cup silver medalists, now under newly appointed coach Sanni Zubair, will face the Abuja football outfit at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B.
This game is part of the preparations by the former El-Kanemi and Gombe United handler to assess the true abilities of the invited players for the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The Flying Eagles resumed camp last Thursday in Abuja, under the supervision of Aliyu Zubairu as head coach.
It should be recalled that the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the appointment of Zubairu as head coach of the National U-20 Boys, Flying Eagles, with Coach Ijaya serving as his assistant.
While it is crucial for the coaching crew to ensure they dominate teams like Benin, Ghana, and Ivory Coast, their immediate task is to assemble and prepare a team for the WAFU B U-20 Championship, scheduled for October/November in Togo, where the zone’s representative will emerge for next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Under the leadership of former Super Eagles forward and coach Samson Siasia, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria won the continental tournament but controversially lost to Argentina in 2005, with Lionel Messi being named the Most Valuable Player, while Mikel Obi and Taye Taiwo claimed the Silver and Bronze boots, respectively.
