The Nigeria U-20 Men’s National Team, the Flying Eagles, defeated Seamoriow FC 4-1 in a friendly match as they intensified preparations ahead of the upcoming 2024 WAFU B Tournament.
The match was the team’s first test game since moving to Ikenne, as Coach Zubair Aliyu and his technical crew are perfecting their strategies for the 2024 WAFU B Tournament.
Flying Eagles striker Kparobo scored a brace, while Ayooma and Kenneth Igbokwe both converted penalties to put the local football club to the sword.
According to the team’s media officer, Sharrif Abdullahi, the team finished the match without any injuries to the players.
Meanwhile, media officer Sharrif Abdullahi confirmed the presence of 30 players in camp, which is the final phase of preparation, but only 20 players will make the final cut.
"Thirty players are in camp, but they will be trimmed to twenty for the WAFU B Tournament. All the boys are in good form, with no injuries or concerns within the team; all the players are fighting hard to secure their place in the final squad," he said.
Abdullahi spoke about the possibility of another friendly with Remo Stars FC before the team departs for Lome, Togo, next week.
"The team is looking forward to more friendlies and might play against Remo Stars FC before leaving for Lome, Togo, anytime next week," Sharrif Abdullahi told Sports 247.
Nigeria is drawn alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso in Group B at the WAFU B U-20 tournament, which is set to begin later this month.
The top two teams in the group will qualify for the semifinals, where the finalists will secure tickets for the 2025 CAF U-20 AFCON, and the semifinalists will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
