WAFF Women’s World Cup 2024: Nigeria to face other 15 countries for glory

Posted : 25 December 2023

The World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) has officially unveiled the list of 16 nations set to compete in the highly anticipated Amputee Football WAFF Women’s World Cup 2024. Scheduled to take place in the vibrant city of Barranquilla, Colombia, from November 2 to 11, 2024.

This historic tournament promises to showcase the resilience, skill, and spirit of women’s amputee football on a global stage.

The road to Barranquilla has been marked by stringent criteria set by WAFF, ensuring that only the most committed and prepared federations earn the right to participate.

The federation emphasizes that adherence to specific guidelines is imperative for entry, underscoring the importance of financial responsibility, punctuality, and effective communication within the global amputee football community.

Out of the initial pool of applicants, 15 teams have successfully met the criteria for submitting their applications on time, laying the foundation for a competitive and well-prepared field.

These teams, including traditional football powerhouses and emerging talents, represent a diverse array of nations from different corners of the globe.

However, the journey is not without its challenges. Two teams, though expressing their eagerness to compete, face the task of settling their WAFF membership fees from previous years by January 30, 2024.

This financial commitment is crucial, demonstrating the fiscal responsibility required to be part of this prestigious event.

As the excitement builds, the upcoming financial milestones are outlined for the participating teams. The initial installment of the participation fee, USD 500 out of the total USD 4,000, must be paid before February 15, 2024.

WAFF assures that invoices will be dispatched soon, setting the stage for federations to secure their place in this historic competition.

Further financial commitments include a WAFF fee of USD 500 before February 29, 2024, and the second installment of the participation fee, USD 2,000, due by June 30, 2024.

The final installment, USD 1,500, along with extra costs for additional personnel (beyond 16 people), is required before August 31, 2024.

The list of participating nations reads like a global football symphony, with representatives from Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia:

Angola
Brazil
Cameroon
Colombia
Costa Rica
England
Ghana
Haiti
Liberia
Nigeria
Poland
Rwanda
Ukraine
USA
India – Presently not a member of WAFF in good standing
Kenya – Application submitted after the deadline, not a member of WAFF in good standing
The inclusion of nations like Brazil, England, and the USA adds an extra layer of excitement, as these traditional football powerhouses bring their renowned footballing prowess to the amputee football arena.

Additionally, the participation of emerging football nations such as Rwanda and Ukraine showcases the truly global and inclusive nature of the tournament.

With the stage set for a historic showdown, football enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate the Amputee Football WAFF Women’s World Cup 2024 as these 16 nations prepare to showcase their talent, determination, and sportsmanship in Barranquilla.

The tournament promises not only thrilling matches but also a celebration of the unifying power of football across diverse cultures and continents.
