Vivianne Miedema, an Arsenal Standout, gives an ACL Injury Update, Announcing Her World Cup Absence
Posted : 16 April 2023
Due to the ACL injury she suffered in December 2022 against Lyon, Vivianne Miedema will miss the Women's World Cup.
Miedema had an ACL tear the previous year and has had to work against the clock to be healthy in time for the major competition this summer in Australia and New
Zealand. She gave a glimpse into when she expected to be healthy but acknowledged she will miss the competition this summer when speaking during the halftime of Arsenal's WSL match against Man City.
"No hopes, I'm definitely going to miss the World Cup which is a hard one," she said.
"I hope to be back for the beginning of next season. I need to be realistic in that sense."
For the Netherlands, Miedema will be missed. With 95 goals in 115 games, she is the nation's all-time leading scorer. The USWNT, Vietnam, and Portugal have been grouped with the Dutch.
The striker will keep working on her recuperation as Arsenal prepares to play Manchester United in their next Women's Super League match.
