Heading into the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 5 in Jos, Ikorodu City have failed to pick up a point in three match days, only managing to earn a point on the road during Match Day 3 in Ilorin against Kwara United. With a trip to Jos, they are motivated to secure points on the road.
Except for the Peace Boys' disappointing home loss in Jos against Niger Tornadoes on Match Day 3, Plateau United have remained unbeaten on the road, and their match against debut campaigners Ikorodu City provides an opportunity to return to winning ways in Jos.
Though laid back at times, the Peace Boys endured a couple of missed chances, along with some blips from Ikorodu City in the first half.
The situation continued on the same trajectory in the second half until a stunning 63rd-minute strike from Vincent Temitope, which was reminiscent of Bernard Mundi's effort on Match Day 2 of NPFL 24 against Heartland of Owerri in Jos.
The Oga Boys came close to leveling the score in the dying minutes with a thunderous effort from Gidado Toyeeb, but Plateau United's Harrison Ebah proved his worth yet again by denying him, leaving the score at 1-0 in favor of the Peace Boys at full time.
A total of 7 home wins and 3 draws marked key statistics on Match Day 5, with a trip to Yenagoa on Match Day 6 against Bayelsa United.
Plateau United is now placed fifth in the current NPFL standings following the home win.
