2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Vincent Enyeama has expressed his aspiration to lead the Super Eagles as head coach in the foreseeable future.
Enyeama disclosed two reasons that deterred him from applying for the vacant coaching position after the departure of Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro.
Following Peseiro's exit, former Nigeria internationals like Daniel Amokachi, Michael Nsien, George Finidi, and Emmanuel Amunike expressed interest in coaching the national team.
Peseiro, who guided the Super Eagles to the 2023 AFCON final, left due to contract extension disagreements with the Nigeria Football Federation.
Enyeama admitted he would have pursued the coaching role if he had obtained his coaching certificate and not been heavily involved in managing his hotel business, Vinpy Hotels.
Despite his business commitments, Enyeama is working towards acquiring coaching qualifications, which are essential for leading the Super Eagles.
He clarified in an interview with Afrik-Foot that his inability to apply for the coaching role stemmed from his lack of certification and his focus on managing his hotel business.
Enyeama expressed his ambition to manage a senior team rather than specializing as a goalkeeper coach, highlighting the importance of broad coaching expertise.
The former Super Eagles goalkeeper emphasized the value of managing a full team, citing his comprehensive understanding of the game from his position.
Enyeama, who boasts 101 appearances for the Super Eagles, aims to transition from a distinguished playing career to coaching, aspiring to contribute his wealth of experience to Nigerian football.
