Nigeria's Victor Osimhen is on the brink of achieving a significant milestone in Napoli's Serie A clash against Torino at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Friday evening.
Should the Napoli striker, wearing the number 9 jersey, feature against Torino, it will mark his 100th appearance in the Italian top-flight since debuting in the competition against Parma on the opening day of the 2020-2021 season.
Since joining Napoli, Osimhen has participated in ninety-nine Serie A matches out of a potential 141.
Despite being the reigning African Footballer of the Year, Osimhen missed 42 games due to injuries and national team commitments during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
In his 99 Serie A appearances for Napoli, Osimhen has scored a total of 61 goals, including 10 in his debut season, 14 in 2021-2022, 26 in 2022-2023, and eleven so far in the current season.
According to the Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport, after 99 matches, only Cristiano Ronaldo (81 goals), Gonzalo Higuain (65), Andriy Shevchenko (64), Vincenzo Montella (64), and David Trezeguet (63) have surpassed Osimhen's goal tally.
Osimhen holds the record as the Napoli player with the most consecutive Serie A goals (8) and is the third Napoli player in history, alongside Diego Maradona and Sallustro, to achieve double-digit goals in four consecutive seasons.
With 7,392 minutes logged across 99 matches in the Italian top-flight, Osimhen has started in 83 of those appearances.
