Victor Osimhen advises Napoli not to hire embattled PSG coach

Posted : 14 June 2023
According to reports, Victor Osimhen, the talented forward of the Super Eagles, has advised Napoli against pursuing his former coach at LOSC Lille, Christophe Galtier, who is facing potential dismissal from Paris Saint-Germain.

After the departure of Luciano Spalletti, who guided Napoli to their first Scudetto triumph in 33 years, the Italian club is in need of a new tactician.

Galtier, who will become a free agent after parting ways with PSG this summer, appeared to be a strong candidate for the position.

However, sources from France, specifically Footmercato (via Tutto Napoli), have revealed that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis sought the opinion of Osimhen regarding Galtier, given their previous successful working relationship at Lille.

Surprisingly, Osimhen's feedback on the French coach was far from positive, indicating his reservations about Galtier.

During the 2019-20 season, Osimhen had a highly productive spell under Galtier's guidance at Lille.

The 24-year-old striker, who joined Lille from Riyal Charleroi for €22.40 million, displayed remarkable form, scoring an impressive 18 goals and contributing six assists in 38 appearances across various competitions.

This outstanding performance led to his record-breaking transfer to Napoli, making him the most expensive African player at the time.

Considering Osimhen's reservations, Napoli is now expected to explore alternative options for their coaching position.

One potential favorite to replace Spalletti is Paulo Sousa, the current manager of Salernitana.

Interestingly, Osimhen himself could potentially depart Napoli during the summer transfer window.

After winning the Scudetto and receiving the prestigious Serie A topscorer award, the former Wolfsburg ace has attracted interest from some of the wealthiest clubs in Europe.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are among the clubs that have been linked with a possible move for Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window.
