Super Eagles stars, Victor Boniface and Victor Osimhen, have both been listed among the top 10 most valuable African footballers.
The CIES Football Observatory recently released a ranking of African players based on their market value for the summer transfer window following the conclusion of the season.
In this ranking, Boniface is placed third, while Osimhen, the 2023 CAF Player of the Year, holds the fourth position. Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Mohammed Kudus are positioned first and second, respectively.
This ranking has taken the Nigerian football community by surprise, particularly given Osimhen's hefty release clause of around €120 million. Boniface, in contrast, has only completed one season with Bayer Leverkusen.
The rankings list Osimhen's value at €85.6 million, whereas Boniface, who was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Year, is valued at €86.5 million. Boniface joined Xabi Alonso’s team in the 2023 summer transfer window and made a significant impact by scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in his debut season with the German club.
Boniface's impressive performance has attracted interest from AC Milan and other clubs, despite his current contract with Leverkusen running until 2028. Meanwhile, Osimhen has been a standout player for Napoli and has recently been linked with a move to Chelsea, although the club has concerns due to his injury history.
Despite these concerns, any club looking to sign Osimhen would need to invest heavily to acquire a player of his caliber.
