As preparations gear up for the 2024 Nigeria University Games (NUGA), Professor Tanko Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, inaugurated a 27-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 27th edition of the games in Jos on Thursday.
Regarding the expectations of the University as the games approach, Professor Tanko Ishaya stated that the university has finalized plans to organize the best and most memorable NUGA games in history.
UNIJOS defeated Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to secure the hosting rights, while the University of Calabar withdrew its bid to host.
The Vice Chancellor, who promised to provide state-of-the-art facilities that athletes and officials can be proud of, explained that preparations are in full swing to ensure the success of the upcoming event.
"We have been eagerly anticipating this opportunity. We thank God and the people who made it possible for us to secure the hosting rights.
"We are delighted that our bid was successful.
"Plans are already in place for facilities and infrastructure that will meet the sporting needs of athletes and officiating officials.
"This LOC, to be co-chaired by me and two others, is tasked with ensuring that we organize one of the best NUGA games in history," Ishaya said.
Regarding the security of athletes and officials, the Vice Chancellor assured that the Plateau State Government would work around the clock to ensure the safety of athletes and officials.
He called on the university's students, especially sports enthusiasts, to actively participate in the forthcoming competition scheduled for 2024.
In response on behalf of the committee, Professor Joash Amupitan, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, of the university, thanked the university's management for entrusting them with this responsibility.
He pledged that the committee members would dedicate their time and resources to the success of the upcoming event.
