UK, Republic of Ireland sole contenders for Euro 2028

The UK and the Republic of Ireland have become the sole contenders for Euro 2028 following Turkey's decision to withdraw and focus on a joint bid with Italy for Euro 2032.
Turkey's decision to merge their Euro 2032 bid with Italy, which was agreed upon in July, has received approval from UEFA, the governing body.
While Italy originally bid for the 2032 tournament, Turkey had initially put forth bids to host both Euro 2028 and 2032.
Both bids are still pending official approval by UEFA, with a meeting of its executive committee scheduled for Tuesday to consider the matter.
Uefa stated, "The presentations at that meeting will be an important part of the process which will take due consideration of the content of the bid submissions before reaching a decision."
Notably, Turkey hosted the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan in June at Istanbul's Ataturk Olympic Stadium, but the country has never hosted a major international tournament.
Italy, the reigning European champions, previously hosted the Euros in 1968 and 1980, with Rome's Stadio Olimpico serving as a venue for Euro 2020.
In April, the UK and Republic of Ireland selected 10 stadiums for their joint bid, including venues such as Glasgow's Hampden Park, Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Dublin's Aviva Stadium, and London's Wembley Stadium.
Additionally, the bid includes two unbuilt stadiums, Belfast's Casement Park and Everton's Bramley-Moore Dock. It is worth noting that the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales have never hosted a major tournament, while England has a history of hosting international events, including Euro 2020, Euro 96, and the 1966 World Cup.
