Super Eagles striker Gift Orban is among the contenders for the UEFA Conference League Goal of the Week after his outstanding goal for Gent in their 4-1 victory over Zorya on Thursday.
Orban marked his return to the scoresheet for Gent during their Europa League group game against Zorya at KAA Gent Stadium. The Buffaloes, strongly favored, demonstrated their prowess with goals from Malick Fofana and Arseniy Batagov, securing a two-goal lead by the 49th minute. Orban added to the tally in the 55th minute with a goal that captured attention.
Receiving a well-executed cross from Noah Fadiga, Orban controlled the ball skillfully with his right foot. Without glancing at the goalposts, he unleashed a powerful shot, finding the right side of the net and extending the lead to 3-1.
Omri Gandelman later sealed the victory for Gent in the 75th minute, while Denys Nagnoynyi scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Orban's impressive goal has earned him a nomination for Goal of the Week, facing competition from Alessandro Pesic, Angus Macdonald, and Casper Nielsen.
