UCL: Yusuf's brilliance falls short; FC Porto crushes Royal Antwerp
Posted : 26 October 2023
Alhassan Yusuf, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, initially put Royal Antwerp ahead with a goal. However, a spirited second-half performance from Porto led to a 4-1 victory.
Antwerp returned to European competition against Porto at the Bosuilstadion. The home team had lost their first two games, while Porto had three points from two matches.
Yusuf played a crucial role in the midfield, tasked with thwarting Porto's attacks. He succeeded, with Antwerp dominating possession and creating opportunities in the first half. Eventually, Antwerp found the net, with Yusuf scoring his first-ever Champions League goal. He pounced on a rebound in the box, making it 1-0.
Antwerp maintained their lead until halftime, but their performance declined in the second half, despite Zaidu Sanusi's absence due to injury.
Porto staged a remarkable comeback, with Evanilson scoring a hat-trick and Stephen Eustaquio adding another to secure a 4-1 victory.
Chidera Ejuke was brought into the game in the 77th minute, but he didn't significantly impact Antwerp's attack.
