Eight Nigeria-eligible players are in contention to represent European nations in the upcoming 2023 European U21 Championship, spanning multiple cities from June 21 to July 8, highlighting their diverse talents and international prospects.
Noni Madueke, a midfielder from Chelsea, has been included in England U21s' roster, where they will compete against Czech Republic, Israel, and Germany in the group stage, aiming to advance to the quarterfinals.
Madueke may encounter two Nigerian-descendant players during the group stage: Noah Atubolu, an impressive goalkeeper from Freiburg, and Kevin Schade, a talented winger from Brentford, who have both made Germany's final squad for the U21 EURO.
Italy U21 manager Paolo Nicolato has named the 23 players who will participate in the tournament, and the list features two players who have caught the attention of the Nigeria Football Federation: Caleb Okoli from Atalanta and Destiny Udogie, a fullback on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Placed in Group D, Italy will face France, Switzerland, and Norway in their group matches.
Michael Olise, who received a call-up to the Super Eagles in 2021, is set to represent France in his first major tournament, having been selected for the U21 squad for the European Championship.
Olise has previously played four matches for the age group, securing his provisional cap-tied status to France during a game against Faroe Islands on March 24, 2022.
Norway U21 coach Leif Gunnar Smerud has included talented Club Brugge striker Antonio Nusa in his squad, while Joshua Zirkzee, who was once a target of the Nigerian Federation, has made it to the Netherlands squad.
Zirkzee, currently playing for Bologna in Italy, has scored seven goals in twelve competitive appearances for the Netherlands U21s.
The Dutch team will face Belgium, Portugal, and Georgia in Group A at the European Championship.
