U-20 Women's World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria face Mauritius, Chad withraws
Posted : 04 September 2023
Nigeria's U-20 women's national team, the Falconets, is set to face Mauritius in the second round of qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia.
In July's African qualifying draw in Egypt, the Falconets received a bye as one of the African representatives from the previous edition in Costa Rica. They were scheduled to face the winner of the first-round match between Mauritius and Chad.
However, the first-round encounter, initially planned for the first week of September, will no longer take place due to Chad's withdrawal from the qualifying series for undisclosed reasons. Consequently, Mauritius advances to the second round without playing a match, where they will face Nigeria.
The ongoing qualifiers will determine the two African teams that will represent the continent at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Nigeria aims to secure a spot in the tournament in Colombia after reaching the final twice in previous editions but falling short against Germany. They also failed to advance past the quarter-finals in the 2022 edition.
