Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have departed for Douala, Cameroon, ahead of the first leg of the African U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification Second Round against the Central African Republic. The match is scheduled for Sunday at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala, Cameroon.
The Flamingos aim to secure a favorable result on neutral ground to make the second leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja a formality on February 10.
Nigeria advanced to the second round with a bye, while the Central African Republic progressed after Djibouti failed to show up for both legs.
The Flamingos seek their seventh appearance at the U17 Women’s World Cup finals, having debuted in the 2008 edition, with their best result being a third-place finish at the 2022 edition.
The CAF qualification series runs from December 8, 2023, to June 16, 2024, to determine the three countries representing Africa at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
