2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 9: Two unbeaten teams, Rivers United/El-Kanemi Warriors, set for titanic battle in Port Harcourt

With Rivers United's unbeaten streak standing at eight games, the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 9 may be unpredictable, as El-Kanemi Warriors have also remained unbeaten so far.


El-Kanemi Warriors narrowly escaped defeat with a late equalizer against Kwara United in Maiduguri, securing a crucial point, while the Harmony Boys were able to earn their second away point this season.


Rivers United, on the other hand, extended their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in NPFL Match Day 8 against a side that had previously remained unbeaten at home.


Rivers United boasts a strong home record, conceding just two goals in four games. However, El-Kanemi Warriors have proven formidable on the road, scoring in all their away games except against Rangers International.


Rivers United sits atop the league table with 20 points, while El-Kanemi Warriors, with six drawn games out of eight, are in fifth place with 12 points.


They are the two remaining teams without a defeat thus far, but that accolade may reduce to one by the time the game concludes on Sunday.


The two teams have met 11 times previously, with Rivers United securing six wins and El-Kanemi four. Their last encounter ended in a draw in May 2018.
