Two Olympic Eagles-eligible players practice with Arsenal before Manchester

Posted : 31 August 2023
Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta welcomed two young players of Nigerian heritage, fullback Ryan Alebiosu (21) and striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji (20), both potentially representing Nigeria's Olympic National Team, to join first-team training prior to the Premier League clash with Manchester United.

These promotions come amidst speculation about their futures, as they have been linked to potential departures from Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, also of Nigerian descent, was present at the session despite earlier reports suggesting a permanent departure from Arsenal.

The training inclusion of Alebiosu may have been due to the return of Takehiro Tomiyasu from suspension, who can fill in as a versatile fullback.

Arteta's decision to play Thomas Partey as a right-back in recent games has been surprising.

With several notable players in the training session, Butler-Oyedeji's chances of a first-team call-up appear slim. Alebiosu hasn't featured in a matchday squad since January 2022.
