Turkish Super Lig eyes history-making Manchester United forward Shola Shoretire

Posted : 20 February 2024

Galatasaray, the renowned Turkish Super Lig club, is strategically preparing for a potential transition as experienced winger Dries Mertens contemplates the conclusion of his career by the season's end. Reports from the online edition of Turkish sports channel A Spor indicate that Galatasaray's management is proactively outlining plans for the upcoming summer transfer window, with a keen focus on recruiting young and promising talents.

The club's scouting team has identified versatile Manchester United forward Shola Shoretire as a prime candidate to succeed Mertens. Shoretire, who made history as the youngest player to represent Manchester United in a European match at the age of 17 years and 23 days, has captured the attention of Galatasaray's decision-makers. Manager Okan Buruk has reportedly given his approval for the transfer, contemplating a potential loan move for the Manchester United Academy product.

Shoretire faced challenges securing a spot in Manchester United's first team since the appointment of coach Erik ten Hag. In the previous season, he sought playing opportunities with Bolton Wanderers during the latter half of the campaign. Despite these challenges, Shoretire continues to shine for United's youth teams, amassing an impressive record of nine goals and four assists in twelve appearances this season.

The 20-year-old prodigy, originally from Newcastle, has been an integral part of Manchester United since the age of nine and formalized his commitment to the club by signing his first professional contract in February 2021. As Galatasaray anticipates a potential transition, Shola Shoretire emerges as a promising option to invigorate the team with youth and talent.
