Tuchel's dismissal came "out of nowhere," "everything" gone wrong for Chelsea - Kai Havertz
Posted : 02 May 2023
Kai Havertz acknowledges that Thomas Tuchel's dismissal "out of nowhere" in 2022–2023 was a major surprise because "everything" went wrong for Chelsea.
The Blues had a disastrous season, and when Graham Potter was fired after just 31 games to be replaced by Tuchel, Frank Lampard became their third manager of the year.
Due to Chelsea's sluggish start under Tuchel, which set the tone for what was to come, the Champions League champion was forced through the doors in September.
Chelsea is now ranked in the bottom half of the Premier League as a result.
German forward Havertz spoke to kicker on Chelsea's difficulties and some significant choices made on and off the field:
“Everything that can go wrong went wrong for us this year. The season actually started relatively quietly. We had a change of ownership which was a big change for the club. And then Thomas Tuchel was fired, which of course always makes a difference in a team like this when you've been successful with a coach and he gets fired out of nowhere.”
Havertz remarked on the mentality Chelsea must adopt heading into their last six games, despite scoring just nine goals in 41 matches across all competitions this season:
“Now we have our backs to the wall and not (doing) very well in the table. Of course it's easy to find excuses. I'm not a fan of blaming everything on something else. At the end of the day. We're all professional footballers and we have to win a game sometimes.”
Tuesday's short journey to Arsenal will mark the start of Chelsea's run-in, which will afterwards see more difficult contests against Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle.
