Tuchel Holds Talks with Ben White Ahead of England Squad Selection

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has spoken with Arsenal defender Ben White ahead of naming his first squad next month. Tuchel, who officially took charge on January 1, had previously stated during the World Cup draw in December that he intended to reach out to White.

 

 The defender has been absent from the England setup since leaving the 2022 World Cup camp in Qatar after the group stage for personal reasons and later making himself unavailable for selection.

 

White, who has earned four caps for England, last played for the national team in March 2022. Tuchel has been actively scouting players ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley in March.

 

While sources confirm discussions have taken place, there is no indication that White’s inclusion in the squad is guaranteed. The 27-year-old recently returned to action for Arsenal in their defeat to West Ham, marking his first appearance since undergoing knee surgery in November.

 

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta emphasized that the decision to reintegrate White into the England squad rests with Tuchel. He praised White’s contributions, particularly in the right-sided role, highlighting his energy and impact on the team. Arteta expressed delight at the defender’s return, acknowledging how much he had been missed in the squad.
